West Bengal Pradesh Youth Congress held a protest march in Kolkata, opposing alleged attacks on Bengali-speaking individuals and migrant workers from Bengal in BJP-ruled states. The demonstration, named the ‘Raj Bhavan Abhiyan’, began from Subodh Mullick Square in the morning and proceeded toward Raj Bhavan. The organization also raised objections to an alleged discriminatory policy referred to as ‘SIR’.
The protest march was stopped by police at Dharmatala, leading to a confrontation. As the police blocked the route, Youth Congress workers sat on the road, resulting in traffic disruption. Tension escalated, and a scuffle broke out between police personnel and protesters. Police then started removing the demonstrators by force, and several workers were dragged and detained from the spot.
Youth Congress representatives said that Bengalis are being “targeted in a planned manner” and called it “completely unacceptable.” They demanded that the central government take immediate steps to stop such “discrimination and attacks.” The protest concluded after multiple detentions and heavy police deployment in the area.
